1970 McLaren M10B F5000

£99,950

Chassis 400-06 was driven by Peter Gethin to his second “Guards” F5000 Championship win. The car was run by the Sid Taylor Racing Team and powered by Alan Smith-tuned Chevrolet engines. In 1970, he scored 8 outright wins, 3 second places & 9 fastest laps on his way to becoming champion before moving into F1 first with McLaren and later BRM (with whom he won the 1971 Italian GP at Monza). As Peter was unavailable for the race at Monza, the car was driven by Derek Bell who in his first and only race in the car won race one but suffered mechanical problems in race two. After Peter left for F1, Swede Reine Wisell took over the car to complete the season scoring 3 more wins, a second place and 4 more fastest laps. Wisell also moved on up to F1, as Emerson Fittipaldi’s team-mate at Lotus in 1971.

Keith Holland bought the car for the 1971 series but an accident at the season opener at Mallory Park (when disputing second place with Brian Redman) resulted in the car landing in the lake that the circuit surrounds! At this point the history of this car divides, with a replacement tub forming the basis of a new “M10H” from R3 Brands Hatch on 12 Apr but the original also returning at some point later in the season. The other (400-06) now resides in Auckland having been lost in Scotland in 1975, before its rediscovery and subsequent restoration in Seattle during 2004.  Keith Holland went on to score 2nd at Mallory, 3rd at Mondello Park and 4th at Brands Hatch in 1972.

Between 1976 and 1977, our car won the British Sprint Championship with Dave Harris, before passing through dealer Michael Lavers to Robin Darlington. By 1990, the car had been entrusted to Hall & Fowler Ltd for a comprehensive restoration which took three years to complete and is photographically documented in the car’s history file. Upon completion in striking Papaya orange, the M10B was sold to Michael Barrette in Munich, Germany where it remained on static display in his showroom. It was then purchased by our vendor, Mark Longmore in 2000 and he returned it to its period specification and iconic Sid Taylor livery. Raced and demonstrated by his friend Matthew Wurr, the car is supplied ‘on the button’ and ready to race, having last been on track at Silverstone in August ’25. The car has been run and maintained regardless of cost over the last two decades, with all safety equipment fitted and in-date. A new Peter Knight Small-block Chevy, with Dart block was installed in 2021 and produces a healthy (and ample) 455BHP and 418.4 ft lb of torque.
