The Lotus 61MX was the final and best developed version of the 61 series; its lowered bodywork and lack of an engine cover reducing the pronounced wedge shape of its predecessors.
The owner of this pristine example has cherished and improved it for the past 15 years. Used only for hillclimbs during this period, the 61’s condition simply must be seen to be believed.
Originally restored in New Zealand by preparation specialists Formtool Engineering in 2000, this immaculate example has subsequently benefited from:
– engine rebuild and new clutch (Aldon Engineering)
– gearbox rebuild (McClurg Motorsport)
– geometry set up (McClurg Motorsport)
– external water pipes (Peter Denty)
as well as replacement battery, silencer, driveshaft couplings, master cylinders, brakes and regular fluid changes.
Used sparingly but successfully by its current owner the Lotus represents a superbly presented contender for speed events or Historic Formula Ford. Complete with a set of FF steel wheels with tyres, a fitted cover, tonneau and a history file including invoices for work carried out, a UK log book and NZ papers.
